Water Softener Comparison
All ion-exchange water softeners work on the same principle, as explained on the following page how water softeners work.
As a consumer you will want to compare water softeners and understand the quality of manufacture, dependability and running costs; considering a good quality water softener can last for at least 12-15 years, often much longer.
EcoWater has been providing high quality water softening systems since 1925 and is the largest manufacturer of residential water softeners in the world. Because we design and manufacture our products, we guarantee they meet our unrivalled standards of quality.
EcoWater uses unique technology to ensure optimum performance, using significantly less salt and water than conventional softeners.
The differences between a non-electric and electronic water softener
Non-electric water softeners use water pressure to measure and operate the recharge process.
An electronic water softener uses electronics to measure and operate the recharge process.
EcoWater uses sophisticated yet easy-to-use technology to operate the water softener. Like many other manufacturers of household appliances, we use electronics to enhance the performance of our product adding accuracy and control. Our technology can be tailored to the household’s exact requirements for the best cost efficient soft water solution.
It could be assumed that a non electric water softener would be cheaper to run, but an EcoWater softener only consumes about £6 per year in electricity, but the advantages of the savings it can make over the life time of the softener are far greater. EcoWater’s unique technology keeps a history of the water used by the household from the day its installed and ensures the least amount of salt and water is used in the regeneration process by calculating the best point to regenerate.
A water softener’s capacity
The capacity of a water softener is the amount of softened water it can create between recharges. The amount of softened water will also depend on how hard the water is in your area. To run economically its important to get the right sized softener for your home, otherwise the water softener will be recharging excessively using more salt and water than necessary. Excessive recharging will also affect the durability of the softener.
EcoWater offers a wide range of high capacity water softeners suitable for all sizes of households. Our unique technology, combined with reliable design, makes our softeners both dependable and efficient to run.
The differences between a timed water softener and metered water softener
A timed water softener will recharge at a set time. This type of water softener can be wasteful because it will recharge whether the resin needs to be refreshed or not.
A metered water softener measures the volume of water passing through the softener and calculates when the resin needs recharging based on the amount of water used.
EcoWater uses patented technology to measure water usage. It even captures historical usage patterns to predict future needs for precise recharging. It recharges only the resin that has been used for efficient use of salt and water.
What is the difference between a single resin tank softener and a twin resin tank softener?
A domestic water softener with a twin tank normally has 2 low capacity resin tanks which either use both tanks at the same time or swap between the two tanks. The twin tank system provides 24/7 soft water and will recharge at any time of the day. As there are two tanks this water softener has a more complex design and has more moving parts than a single tank system. The disadvantage of recharging at anytime of the day, is the home’s water flow can be affected while the recharge is in operation. This means you could be in for a nasty shock while having a shower!
An EcoWater softener has one resin tank in different sized capacities. EcoWater does not believe in creating complexities of design to deliver 24/7 soft water, which in most households is unnecessary because we do not use water constantly day and night. EcoWater automatically recharges in the early hours of the morning when it needs to, this will depend on how much water the home uses, it could be every 3 or 4 days or every week or so. Only hard water is available during the recharge, but as this takes place in the early hours of the morning when it is assumed water is not being consumed, this does not affect the soft water supply. And if that time is not convenient, it can easily be changed to a more convenient time.
As an EcoWater water softener recharges less than a low capacity twin tank system, therefore, there will be less wear and tear on parts.
An EcoWater single tank design also will not vary in water flow.
The EcoWater single resin tank design uses less moving parts than a twin tank for improved reliability.
Magnetic Water Softeners
Magnetic water softeners or electrical scale reducers hold hard water minerals in suspension in the water. The treated water therefore remains hard and can revert to its former state when stored.
As soft water is created by the removal of the hard water minerals this type of device would not give you the benefits of soft water.
